CMA Amplifies Physicians’ Voices on Community Mental Health

Posted By CMA Public Policy Committee, Friday, May 15, 2026

The Columbus Medical Association applauded the recent passage of the Community Crisis Response Amendment (Issue 5) in Columbus.

CEO of the Columbus Medical Association & Affiliates, Tracy Davidson, along with Public Policy Committee Co-Chairs William Cotton, MD, and Chris Brown, MD, wrote an op-ed in the Columbus Dispatch in support of the initiative, which will help ensure our neighbors in crisis are met with the right response from trained clinicians, social workers, and crisis specialists – not just law enforcement.

This is a powerful example of how CMA works on behalf of physicians. By elevating physicians’ firsthand experiences caring for patients in mental health and substance use crises, CMA:

  • Gives physicians a trusted public voice on issues affecting their patients and the health of our community.
  • Advocates for evidence-based solutions that improve outcomes and reduce strain on emergency departments and hospitals.
  • Secures a seat at the table with city leaders, first responders, and community organizations as new programs are designed and implemented.
  • Ensures physician expertise shapes policy decisions that impact healthcare delivery across Central Ohio.

When you are a member of CMA, your perspective carries greater influence. Together, physicians can help shape policies that support patients, strengthen the profession, and build a healthier community for all.
